HRO Hosts Intensive Workshop on Writing Academic Textbooks for Rank Advancement, Guiding Faculty on Ethical AI Integration

On October 18, 2025, the Division of Human Resources and Organization (HRO) at Walailak University organized a workshop titled “Writing Textbooks and Books for Academic Position Applications.” Held at the Bhadra Dharamabhorn Meeting Room, 9th Floor, Walailak University Hospital, the seminar brought together 96 faculty members seeking to elevate the quality of their scholarly works to meet academic promotion standards.

Walailak University President Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong presided over the opening ceremony following a report delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warit Jawjit, Vice President for Administration and Sustainable Development. President Sombat highlighted that authoring academic books is a core faculty responsibility—one that not only transfers knowledge to students and supports lifelong learning, but also advances university research standards globally while demonstrating professional ethics.

The workshop focused on structural compliance, academic integrity, and publication standards. Notably, the session addressed the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in writing academic books, outlining clear guidelines to ensure AI utilization remains productive, high-quality, and compliant with the rules set by Walailak University’s Academic Position Committee.

The event featured comprehensive morning and afternoon sessions:

  • Keynote Lectures & Panel Discussion: Prof. Dr. Thanet Aphornsuvan delivered a lecture on institutional textbook regulations, followed by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Siriwan Jirasiritam, M.D., on textbook writing fundamentals. Moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apichai Wattanapisit, MD, a panel titled “Traps and Pitfalls in Writing Textbooks and Books” brought together senior experts via Zoom—including Prof. Dr. Udom Thumkosit, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Somchit Hanucharurnkul, Prof. Emeritus Peerasak Chantharaprateep, Prof. Dr. Santi Maensiri, and Prof. Dr. Thanet Aphornsuvan—to share critical precautions.

  • Discipline-Specific Focus Groups: Afternoon sessions broke out into three academic tracks: Health Sciences, Science & Technology, and Humanities & Social Sciences. Faculty members presented proposed book topics, outlines, chapter structures, and literature reviews to receive direct, personalized feedback from expert evaluators.

This initiative serves as a vital mechanism to drive academic standards and showcase the scholarly achievements of Walailak University faculty on a national level.
